Welcome to The Dance
I’m pleased to announce that my first novel, The Dance is now available via this site and through major booksellers. Electronic versions are available for Amazon kindle and in the iTunes book store for the iPad. See the Buy the Book page for more information.
This is my first foray into the world of fiction, and it’s been a fascinating experience. Starting with a friend’s true story as a skeleton, I created the tale’s flesh from places I’d never been and characters I’d never met. I researched Spanish towns, bullfighting, and flamenco guitars—and placed these elements back in 1970; I was six years old in 1970.
The story wrote itself; I did not know how the book would end until the night before I finished it. My characters came to life and told the story differently than I planned. Many times, words I never intended to type would appear in the manuscript before me. Often, I would complete a passage and wonder how I would ever reconcile it with the story, but I honored my characters and plot by allowing them to make unexpected turns. It all came together, and that’s appropriate. The Dance is a fast-moving story, but it’s also a celebration of the magic and the mystery that lie beyond faith-based views of the world and beyond empirical evidence gathering.
The Dance is not a book product written for a popular market. Creating an entertaining, meaningful and provocative story was my only goal. I am ultimately a writer, not a book vendor, but of what use is a writer without a reader? Though I question the relevance of publishing companies, record labels and their ilk in today’s electronic world, I believe the internet offers the common man the power to publish. This site pushes my work out into the stream. From here, I entrust it to what eddies and currents may carry it your way.
I look forward to sharing The Dance and hope you enjoy it.
