Chapter 220: Let’s Auction
Chapter 220: Let’s Auction
Kadyn was about to go for a meditation session after lunch when Cecelia spoke, "We have accumulated around twenty rank 4 elemental essences, from our adventures, and four rank 5 elemental essences. I wonder, if you have any idea, what should we do with them?"
Kadyn was silent for a minute. Then, "You guys can take them if they are compatible with your elements—according to the price. Or, you can auction them," he paused. "I’m going to attempt refining the rank 5 potions, if I succeed we can add them, too."
Then he climbed the stairs. He no longer wanted to meditate; he was going to refine potions. It’s been some time since he became rank 5 mage, it was time to attempt something new. He paused and then turned around. "Elora. Zelie. Both of you, come with me."
The duo exchanged an excited grin and sauntered behind Kadyn hand in hand. Whenever Kadyn asked them for help, their skills would improve by leaps and bounds in just a single session. This was definitely such an occasion today.
As the trio went upstairs, to the Potion Hall, others started to debate excitedly about the auction. Dion wanted to make it grand, but was chided by Hot Rod’s harsh remarks, and then Hot Rod voiced his own opinion: he wanted to add a few beautiful cheer girls at the entrance for the distinguished guests. However, he fell silent when the girls in the room gave him fierce glares.
Morwag wanted to kill the competitors who could make moves against Heaven’s Door in the future. He even had prepared poison to kill them without any one knowing the truth, as it would take three to five days to take effect.
Everyone rolled their eyes at him, and in the end, they decided to come to a conclusion when Kadyn was with them.
However, in the meanwhile, they decided to advertise the auction and its contents. Many rumours started to appear in the Dewhurst: some said that Heaven’s Door was going to auction dragon’s scales, some said it was a phoenix’s feather, and some said that nothing was going to happen, everything was rubbish and nonsense. However, mixed among these rumours was the truth as well. Though no one could tell what was true and what was false. Heaven’s Door would not tell them anything, either.
People felt frustrated at their nonchalant attitude, but the anticipation was written all over their faces.
Two days later Kadyn stood in front of his companions. Beside him was floating a screen, on the top of the screen was written Weekly Missions. "This time you won’t be able to form a team. I want all of you to go alone and complete the missions, as we need a lot of things to prepare for the auction, otherwise it would take forever to collect them."
He eyed them one by one. "I would also go and kill a few rank five beasts, as I need their cores and hides and fangs and other things to brew the rank 5 potions. Remember, your life is more important than a mission, so if you find something strange, or if things get out of your hands, escape. Don’t try to accomplish something if you aren’t certain that you could."
Suddenly, he looked at Rayna and said, "Sister Rayna, I never wanted to make you battle and kill, but I think you need to learn how to protect yourself. Things are about to get ugly pretty soon, when that time comes, you have to fight to protect yourself, or you will die. If you want to protect Kove and yourself, you need to learn how to kill and how to run and how to defend.
"I won’t force you to do anything, but you should think about it. And if you want to accept a mission, I would let you tag along with someone. Take Kove and Melvona with you, because being children won’t save them from the creatures that are about to descend our world."
After that Kadyn vanished out of thin air, leaving stunned and stupefied faces behind. No one thought that Kadyn would speak in such a hard tone to Rayna. Ever since they entered the shop they thought themselves invincible, unbeatable, and immortal in the battle against their peers. That’s why when they heard about the creatures, who were about to descend into their world, they dismissed them like they were nothing. However, now, when Kadyn spoke in such a grave tone, their hearts skipped a beat, thudding in their chest with unknown fear that they weren’t able to pinpoint.
Everyone one of them was affected by Kadyn’s words, but Rayna had turned pale. She never killed a single animal in her life. She was a homemaker, a normal woman you would find in every single house. That’s why when she thought about killing humans and animals she felt an urge to throw up. However, when she eyed her son’s innocent face, she remembered Kadyn’s words, "If you want to protect Kove, you need to learn how to kill..." These words were enough to drive her to do anything.
She clenched her fist and turned toward the people around her. "Could you take me with you?"

Kadyn appeared under the canopy of green leaves, as the branches of towering trees interwoven into each other like a cobweb. The colourful birds chirped and flew in terror when Kadyn appeared, the monkey on one branch screeched and jumped on the branch above its head.
The trees were called Tangled Sycamore, the tree was used to make furniture, and they were found in abundance inside the Goofy Spruce Woods of the Eozen continent. Moreover, it was the greatest forest on the continent and the most dangerous as well. Being at the outskirts of the forest, he could still feel terrifying breaths inside the forest. But instead of frightening him, they only excited him to no end. He wanted to battle those creatures to measure his strength.
All this time he was tangled with the matter of the shop as it was new and needed time to gain the trust of people. However, now that he had established himself somewhat in Dewhurst he wanted to practice his skills. And he also needed things for his potions, he could kill two birds with a single stone.
Kadyn grinned and hobbled through the thickets inside the forest, eager to meet his adversary.
"Ahhh!!"
Abruptly, he heard a scream and rushed towards the noise.
