Chapter 400 - 233: Reaction

As the metal door swung open, Su Chen stepped out, and his eyelid twitched.
In the corridor outside, Wei Zhenghong was at the very front, with a large, empty space directly behind him.
But beyond that empty space, the crowd stretched all the way to the reception area outside the challenge zone. It was packed with people.
As he emerged, a multitude of intense gazes converged on him. Some were curious, others admiring or amazed, but there were also a few hostile stares mixed in.
’Why are there so many people here again...’ Su Chen grumbled inwardly. He knew his new ranking would probably cause a huge stir.
After all, everyone in the area could see the real-time updates to the Holy Hall’s ranking list, but he hadn’t expected them to move so fast.
’Someone probably saw me coming and called all their friends.’
He had a pretty good idea why.
Whether it was being chosen for the Morning Star Tier or being acknowledged by the Ancient King Stele, both involved too many unknown factors and lacked any unified standard.
These titles attached to Su Chen’s name made many within the Sect curious about what, exactly, made him so special.
But a ranking earned fist by fist and kick by kick was the most direct and convincing proof of all.
"Meng Shiyu!" Wei Zhenghong suddenly boomed. Meng Shiyu, who had been slowly backing into the crowd to leave, froze.
"Your Martial Uncle is right here. Are you going to leave without so much as a greeting?"
Wei Zhenghong’s voice was level.
The gazes that had been fixed on Su Chen shifted in unison, landing on Meng Shiyu.
Many people exchanged glances, their lips twitching in faint smiles. They were ready for a show.
For most people present, the struggle over who would be chosen for the Morning Star Tier was a distant affair.
Many of them could spend their whole lives trying and only ever reach Tier Eight. Tier Nines were already rare, to say nothing of Double Ninth Tier.
Even those with enough Talent to theoretically reach such heights found the various profession requirements too draining on their time and energy. Besides, advancement was not without its perils.
Before Su Chen’s arrival at the Sect, many of those present had harbored doubts, scrutiny, and even resentment.
Fundamentally, they felt Su Chen was unworthy of his position. Buried deeper was a sense of bitterness—even though his status had nothing to do with them, it felt as if something had been stolen from them.
But now, Su Chen had not only arrived and gained the acknowledgment of the Ancient King Stele, but he had also, as a mere Tier Four, stormed his way to the very top of the Tier Five rankings.
This ironclad battle record swept away all doubt.
To the middle and lower-ranking members, Su Chen was a genuine Star Seed. As for the conflicts among the higher-ups, they were just spectators.
With all eyes on him, Meng Shiyu’s expression turned ugly. Still, he managed to force a smile and said to Su Chen, "Junior Martial Uncle, your prowess is truly astonishing."
Su Chen’s gaze fell on Meng Shiyu. Sensing the subtle tension in the air, he realized this person was likely trouble and replied coolly, "You flatter me."
Having gotten a response, Meng Shiyu didn’t dare linger and hurriedly turned to leave.
Wei Zhenghong snorted. He retracted his gaze and glared at the assembled crowd, his voice booming, "What are you all looking at? Nothing to see here. Scram!"
Wei Zhenghong’s words carried considerable weight. The crowd gathered at the challenge center immediately scattered in all directions.
"That guy is one of Qin Tianlin’s lapdogs," Wei Zhenghong said in a low voice. "He heard you were here to get your ranking and rushed over immediately, probably looking to cause trouble. If your rank had been too low, he would have likely stirred up a storm."
Steward Deng, standing nearby, felt his scalp tingle. He whispered, "Star Seed Wei, I’ll... I’ll get back to my work..."
He was just a Steward; he had no desire to know about the disputes among the higher-ups, and certainly didn’t want to get mixed up in them.
Wei Zhenghong waved his hand impatiently, while Su Chen nodded thoughtfully.
The two of them walked out of the challenge center. The many Holy Hall members who had scattered hadn’t gone far. They were gathered in small groups nearby, their faces alight with excitement.
They were swiping on their virtual screens, likely informing friends who didn’t know what had happened.
Seeing the two emerge, they all instinctively moved further away, as if afraid of provoking Wei Zhenghong.
Only after the two were at a distance did someone whisper, "Is anyone going to challenge that young prodigy’s projection?"
The words had barely been spoken when all eyes shot toward the speaker. Wang Ye was the quickest, already dashing into the challenge center. The others immediately followed, all piling in after him.
’Just how strong is this Star Seed to become the top of Tier Five as a Tier Four? This was the perfect chance to experience it for themselves against his training projection.’
......
"Seriously, you’re on another level! Charging straight to the top of Tier Five!" Wei Zhenghong couldn’t help but exclaim as they walked.
"How’d you manage that? Those students from the Holy Hall aren’t exactly pushovers."
’He was really curious.’
"Hmm..." Su Chen mulled it over for a moment before saying, "Perhaps I’m just good at fighting to the death."
"Good at fighting to the death?" Wei Zhenghong couldn’t help but laugh. He was a blunt man, but since Su Chen clearly didn’t want to elaborate, he didn’t press the issue, merely muttering to himself:
"I wonder what kind of face that Shen Yi’an fellow will make when he hears about this. His Holy Profession must be almost fully fused by now."
Su Chen’s ears perked up. ’The number one on the Holy List has already forged his Holy Profession?’
After a moment’s thought, he asked, "I want to go to the Nether Realm. I heard from Senior Brother Qing Cang that the Sect can use an anchor to let you return to the exact spot you left from on your previous trip."
"The Nether Realm?" Wei Zhenghong shot him a surprised look. "What do you want to go to that godforsaken place for? The Nether Realm is no place for the living."
Su Chen couldn’t help but ask, "But aren’t special materials like Netherworld Stones and other things related to the Nether Realm all harvested from there?"
