Chapter 873 - 852 ( Midgar - I )

"I see you're excited, Tifa" - said a tall, muscular man in black teas. He was wearing an open sleeveless jacket that showed off his well-trained body, although the most important detail was that he had a submachine gun instead of a hand.

"It's obvious, she said her boyfriend would come to see her" - answered a pretty brown-haired girl who was wearing green military pants, a blue polo shirt and over it a silver armor. She was Jessie, the technical expert of the group, in charge of producing explosives and fake IDs.

"He's not my boyfriend, Jessie!" - Tifa exclaimed as she stomped her foot loudly, though present gave her an amused look because they could notice the blush on the girl's cheeks.

"I didn't think our most popular girl had a boyfriend, that will be a hard blow for your fans, Tifa" - said an overweight man who was wearing a red bandana, a white t-shirt and green shorts. He was Wedge, the group's informant, as well as the one in charge of placating the enemies of their small group.

"Ya, stop bothering her" - said a black-haired man who was dressing similarly to Wedge, only he was taller and thinner. His name was Biggs, and he was the strategist in charge of making the group's plans, as well as contingency plans during the operation if things got out of hand - "You still won't tell us who your boyfriend is, though."

"He's not my boyfriend!" - Tifa exclaimed, her face red with embarrassment.

"Did you hear that, Cloud? That's got to hurt," said a male voice.

The group jumped in surprise as they looked towards the source of the voice, which didn't take long to show itself.

He was a handsome black-haired man with his hair slicked back, though what made the group tense up was the clothing, an outfit they recognized immediately.

"What's a SOLDIER doing in this place?" - Wedge asked as he frowned.

"Easy, Wedge, look at his appearance carefully, as well as the huge sword on his back" - said Biggs as he shook his head at his friend - "This man is Ex-SOLDIER Zack Fair, and if he's here, I guess we already know who Tifa's boyfriend is..."

"Seriously, you should stop being so loud, Zack" - said a second voice, one that Tifa recognized immediately, one that made her smile slightly.

"Oh come on, you don't have to be so bitter, Cloud" - said Zack as he looked at his best friend. He was wearing a similar outfit, though unlike his friend, the blond man who had just walked in was wearing a strange red cape that looked like a scarf wrapped around his neck - "I still think I should be the one wearing the cape."

Cloud rolled his eyes at his friend before shaking his head - "Seriously, don't ever change."

"I don't plan to either" - Zack replied as he folded his arms.

"It's good to see you, Zack, Cloud" - Tifa said as she walked from the bar and hugged the two boys.

"Same here, Tifa, you've grown more than I thought you would" - Zack said as he nodded.

"That compliment I would have liked to have received without you looking at my breasts" - Tifa said as she gave him a blank stare - "I hope Aerith enjoys hearing this."

Zack's face paled as a small smile appeared over Cloud's lips, who simply watched as Tifa appeared in front of him and gave him a tight hug.

"I'm glad to see you safe, Cloud" - Tifa murmured as she hugged the blond with all her might, as if she was afraid he would disappear again.

"It's the only way I had to be able to make you guys escape" - Cloud answered while shaking his head, although if he was honest, he felt a bit strange because there were moments when I felt that his memories were messed up product of Professor Hojo's experiments.

Yes, he remembered what had happened during his first mission as a high class SOLDIER together with Zack and his other old friend, the first class SOLDIER Sephiroth.

Cloud still remembered that moment, the mission had been assigned to his two friends, although later the higher-ups decided to include him because the place they were going to was his hometown, Nibelheim.

In the city, Cloud was reunited with his old friend who was now a beautiful girl, reconnecting their memories and celebrating that he had managed to fulfill his promise, the same one he had made to her when they were children, although this made Zack bring out his joking side and started to tease them every time he saw them together to Tifa's embarrassment.

Everything had started well, but the situation took a 180° degree turn when the trio discovered the truth about Mako energy, as well as the consequences of overexposure to it, the most affected being Sephiroth, who hid in the old Shinra Mansion to investigate the past.

"Are you okay?" - Tifa asked with concern.

"Sorry, my memories went back to that moment..." - Cloud said as he let out a sigh.

"Relax, you did everything you could" - said Tifa as she stroked his cheek, only to blush as she noticed how those present were looking at her with amusement - "Really! Don't you guys have anything better to do!"

The group simply smirked back at her, which caused Tifa to stomp her foot for a second time.

"Seriously..." - Tifa muttered as she folded her arms, though this only made her huge breasts stand out.

"How are our families?" - Cloud asked with concern.

"They are fine, your mother has been asking for you for the last few months, while my parents are working with Barret, you know, the guy I mentioned to you" - Tifa answered while pointing at the leader of the group.

Cloud looked at the man before walking to him and thanking him.

"Don't even mention it, it's the least I can do" - Barret replied as he let out a grunt to hide his embarrassment, after all, he wasn't used to receiving gratitude from people, much less with his sharp attitude - "Anyway, it's nice to meet the duo of Ex-SOLDADOs that have been causing Shinra so much trouble."

"We're also the ones cleaning up your mistakes" - Zack replied with a frown - "I understand what you're trying to do better than anyone else, after all, I'm aware of the damage a Mako reactor can do to a city, but you're doing it wrong, man, you're putting a lot of lives at stake"

Barret frowned slightly before grunting in irritation, though he had to admit the former SOLDIER's words were true.

"I know what you've been saying many times, but you don't understand" - Biggs said as he folded his arms - "Putting that aside, I guess you're coming to help us with our new mission?"

"Exactly, after seeing the plan Tifa sent us, I can tell you that the situation is about to go to shit, and I'm not talking about Midgard's energy, but hundreds, if not thousands of people will die when the reactor explodes."

Biggs frowned because this was true, the hundreds of human losses were a risk that was clear in the plan, however, Barret seemed to simply ignore it for the sake of thousands more.

"I understand that sacrifices are necessary, but everything has a limit" - Zack said as he folded his arms.

"So what do you have in mind?" - Barret asked as he looked at the Ex-Soldier duo.

"It's simple, evacuation" - Zack answered simply - "We'll use a method to make people evacuate and thus prevent human casualties, not to mention that with this your little group can gain some more popularity, instead of continuing to be the terrorists Shinra makes them out to be"

Barret was silent before nodding - "I understand, we will follow your proposal, though our plan will remain as is, and I don't plan to accept that they don't follow our instructions"

"You are the boss, we are a duo of mercenaries" - Zack replied as he shrugged his shoulders.

"Mercenaries who only accept missions with a high level of morality, usually your kind don't care who the client is as long as they pay" - Jessie said with slight interest.

"What can I say? I decided to become a SOLDIER because I wanted to be a hero like Sephiroth" - answered Zack, although his expression changed when he remembered his old friend, something that also happened with Cloud.

"Sephiroth?" - Jessie repeated as she cocked her head to one side.

"Cloud?" - Tifa repeated while frowning because she had seen first hand how strong Sephiroth was when he almost destroyed Nibelheim all by himself.

"That's a story for another time, although I share Zack's opinion, I'm sure Sephiroth is still alive" - Cloud replied as he shook his head - "Anyway, I think it's time for us to talk about our mission, I still have to go see my mother and Zack his girlfriend."

"Right, I have to make sure those sons of bitches don't try anything against her" - said Zack as he remembered the TURKS and their many attempts to capture his beloved.
